I get this question a lot, so maybe you are wondering the same thing. People want to know: as internet marketing strategies go, when I am first getting started, if I have lots of ideas, should I focus on building one list or should I get a list going in each of my niches? I think a lot of people think that if you can make money from one list, you should be able to make twice as much money with two lists.
So here's my answer...and believe me...I can understand how thinking two or three lists will bring in that much more money, the truth is that it will probably slow you down. The sequence should go like this: Focus on one list in one niche, monetize that list...and by that I mean sell your own products or affiliate products to it, and get really, really good at that.
The problem with several lists, in several different niches, is you don't end up multiplying your profits, you end up dividing your attention and focus, and that just results in dividing up your profits as well.
So let's look at this for a minute.
You put up a squeeze page and that collects your visitors' information, which then sends them to your sales page. At this point, your primary job is to drive traffic to that page and if you are focused on this one page and not distracted by the other two or three niches you are trying to work in at the same time, you will have awesome results. You will be putting your information in front of as many people as you possibly can, it will be ONE area that you are really excited about and you will be testing everything about that one squeeze page...testing headlines, copy, opt-in buttons...you name it. The better your page is, the better your conversions will be, and the faster you will be growing your list.
Now here's the beautiful part. If you are working on this one niche for a while and for some reason it just does not seem to make you any money...or at least the kind of money you were hoping for...then you can bail on it. OR, put it on a back burner and fire up one of the other niches you wanted to try in the first place.
Actually, sometimes using the back burner as one of your internet marketing strategies is ok because there are some markets and areas that just seem to take a little longer to get going than others. For me, I'd rather be working on something that gets me really, really excited. Writing copy and autoresponders is way more fun when it is a topic that you have a lot of interest in. The back burner idea lets you stay working in the areas that are most fun, while giving the time that is sometimes needed for a good niche to become a great niche.
